Charter Schools
As defined by the Texas Education Agency, a charter school is a type of public school providing education through a contract known as a "charter," which may be granted by the State Board of Education or the board of trustees of an independent school district. Charter schools operate independently of the local school district, are non-sectarian, and must follow rules and regulations governing civil rights, health, and safety. No tuition is charged to families who choose to have their children attend a charter school.
