| Home Schooling - Texas
Parental instruction, commonly known as “home schooling”
is a schooling option which parents may choose in lieu of
having a child attend public school. Children who are
receiving instruction under the direct supervision of a
parent are recognized by Texas law to be attending a private
school. The only requirement of a home school is that
it be conducted in a bona fide manner, using a written
curriculum, which includes reading, spelling, grammar, math,
and a course in citizenship. The Texas Education Agency does
not regulate, monitor, or approve programs available to
parents who home school and the State of Texas does not
award a diploma to “home schooled” students. For additional
