What is a Green Card?
The Permanent Resident Card (I.551) is commonly known as the Green Card and is issued by the U.S. government to lawful permanent residents (immigrants). The card is not green, but is called the “Green Card” because of the original color of the card many years ago. Permanent Resident Cards are issued by the U.S. government to lawful permanent residents (immigrants) and serve as evidence of an individual's right to live and work in the United States. This card represents protection to its holder and communicates to all law enforcement officials and U.S. employers a person's right to permanently live and work in the United States. |
What is Labor Certification?
The Labor Certification process is based on the condition that a foreign national has been offered a "skilled" or "professional" position of employment in the United States. There are some exceptions of employment. The process begins when the U.S. Labor Department determines that there are insufficient U.S. workers who have been found to be eligible or qualified for a position. If an individual, business, or organization is willing to make an offer of employment for such positions and “sponsor” an individual, they may legally reside and work in the United States.
The Labor Certification process can actually be performed for a foreign worker residing abroad. |
